Safety and Contraindications

Cosmetic energy devices are low-risk when they are used on suitable skin, at the right settings, by someone who knows what to avoid. This page collects the safety guidance behind our guides so you can check a device, a protocol or a treatment plan against it.

Who should not use an energy device

Pregnancy, a pacemaker or other electronic implant, metal implants in the treatment area, active infection, cold-related conditions for cryolipolysis, and photosensitising medication for light-based treatments. Tell the operator about recent fillers, Botox, microneedling or surgery, because timing matters. If you have a medical condition affecting your skin, ask your doctor first: these are cosmetic devices, not medical treatments.

Settings that cause harm

Most complications trace back to energy that is too high, too many passes in one spot, treating thin skin at facial energy levels, or treating without the conductive gel that the device needs. Sharp burning pain during a session is a signal to stop.
